New York’s crisis pregnancy centers, led by pro-life Christians, have filed a lawsuit against State Attorney General Letitia James. The Thomas More Society, a Christian law firm representing these organizations, argues that James’s objections infringe upon the 14th Amendment of the Constitution. According to the Washington Examiner, the lawsuit claims that James, a Democrat, is unfairly using her power to silence pro-life voices.

The plaintiffs in this case include Compass Care, Heartbeat International, and other pro-life organizations. These centers offer a treatment known as abortion pill reversal, which is sought by women who have taken mifepristone, a drug that induces abortion. Instead of being forced to proceed with the abortion, these women can contact a pregnancy center and receive bioidentical progesterone from a doctor to counteract the effects of the abortion medication.

The lawsuit argues that James has no right to interfere in the personal medical decisions of expectant mothers, who should have the freedom to carry their pregnancies to term and protect their unborn babies from the harmful effects of mifepristone. While James may not view this as a medical issue, the crisis pregnancy centers believe otherwise. The lawsuit was prompted by a warning letter sent by James’s office on April 22 to several of these pro-life pregnancy centers.

Peter Breen, the executive vice president and head of litigation at the Thomas Moore Society, holds the view that this constitutes yet another political maneuver by the fervently pro-abortion official.

“This is a political witch-hunt against small nonprofits that have selflessly served New York’s pregnant women and their children for over 50 years,” Breen said.

“Letitia James should be heralding these charities, not launching outrageously false claims against them under laws that don’t apply to their noncommercial speech,” Breen added.

“Now they are targeting those who assist a woman in exercising her right to continue her own pregnancy,” Godsey said.

James is actively taking strong measures against individuals or groups who try to protect the lives of unborn children, and she is utilizing her position of authority to enforce this. It is our hope that the Christian pregnancy centers will succeed in their legal battle against her and resume their crucial mission of saving lives.
